Summer Snookn!

Well Boys & Girls... We are in the middle of summer and that means summer snookn....

Me and Jose set out on a summer snookn trip. The goal was to catch some snook on strictly artificials, no live bait whatsoever. I asked myself If I could take a hole day with no live bait, only plastics. At first it was a bit tough, we worked several shorelines and mangrove creeks to no avail.

I was starting to have my doubts and wishing for some bait, Pilchards, pinfish, shrimp, whatever....We then headed to a creek mouth where the end of the outgoing tide was happening. Once we arrived and set up, the Tarpon were rolling and crashing everywhere. We tossed everything but the kitchen sink at them but they would not eat.

We did manage to hook up with several small snook. The monkey was off our back. Then the tide bottomed out and we were on our way to a new spot. I thought maybe we can make this work...

We arrived at a new spot. The incoming tide was just starting to happen. After about 30 minutes of casting plastics in every direction from the boat. We get rewarded with a nice slot sized snook.

20 minutes after that we hook and land another snook. For the next 1 1/2 hrs, we had snook on every 15-20 minutes, they were just slamming our baits. Almost every other cast we had fish on....After that the tide slackened, we called it a day.

All in All, we ended with about a dozen or so snook all caught on artificials. That is a first for me. I usually don't leave home with out live bait. I think I might have made the transition to the Dark Side....
